Earlier this week, IO Interactive launched Hitman 3 across console and PC platforms to mostly favorable reviews. As far as the frame rates are concerned, the game is able to hit a consistent 60 fps on the Xbox Series X, Series S, and the PlayStation 5 (PS5). However, the Xbox Series X seems to have one advantage over the PlayStation 5.
Digital Foundry analyzed Hitman 3's performance across all three next-gen consoles and found that the Xbox Series X can run the game at native 4K 60 fps while the Xbox Series S manages to do the same at 1080p. The PS5, however, seems to drop the resolution to 3200 x 1800 in order to achieve 60 fps although the texture quality is the same as that of the Series X.
The PS5 also uses medium shadow quality while the Series X and Series S maintain shadows at High and Low, respectively. That being said, the difference in shadow quality is perceivable only at close quarters. Other settings such as 8x anisotropic filtering and screen space reflections are similar across all three consoles.
Hitman 3 runs at a stable 30 fps on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with the PlayStation 4 Pro being able to hit 60 fps at 1080p. In general, the game runs at locked frame rates on all consoles. A slight exception to this can be seen while sneaking through the fields in the Mendoza level wherein the frame rate drops to about 53 fps on the Series X. The PS5, on the other hand, remained unaffected in this level.
While the drop in resolution for the PS5 isn't much, it sure does give Xbox fans something to brag about. Nevertheless, the overall game experience seems to be great on all platforms regardless of the resolution, and that matters the most at the end of the day.
